Hi everyone! Last night I was rock hunting around nugents corner when I found a dog under the highway bridge down by the river.
when I drove in she followed me and never left my side.
She just kept her face buried in me.
I stayed for a while to see if anyone came for her and no one was around.
I know someone that lives just across the river so I shot him a pic to see if he recognized her as a neighbors dog and no.
him and a couple neighbors came over and none recognized her.
She was thin, soaked through, a lot of matted fur in the back and around her neck all her fur is gone.
She didn’t have a collar or tags but clearly used to have a collar that stayed on permanently because the hair is just starting to grow back.
She’s adult size but seems young.
She’s so sweet, and very sad.
She’s either missing someone or glad to be away from whatever was at home before.
(idk I’m not a dog expert but seems like all the fur missing around her neck, combined with some of the very sad behavior I am seeing, may be neglect, vet tech said the same but I realize there can be a lot of reasons for different behaviors in these situations)
Because I had concerns for her care I brought her to a vet to see if she had a chip.
She does not have a chip.
if this is your dog, please reach out.
I’m not taking her to the humane society or another kennel situation, the vet tech said Shepards often don’t do well in those environments, it’s a lot of stress and she is clearly already stressed and depressed.
So for now, she is staying with me.
we bathed her with dawn.
I’ve given her small meals every couple of hours.
I’m slowly working on the matting.
Ive only seen her lick herself once, so she seems to appreciate the help.
We have a big fenced in yard that’s quiet, but I’m keeping her on a leash with a body harness to let her neck heal.
She’s okay.
She’s here and she’s resting.
And getting a lot of love.
We are keeping her away from our two cats but shes very curious, seems used to other animals, I think she’s been a little jealous of them snuggling together.
she seems to want in.
She doesn’t know any commands.
seems to have no leash training either.
